8th Annual Kids to Work Day

For the last 8 years, Nave Newell has participated in National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day and held it in conjunction with an Alex’s Lemonade Stand and Bake Sale. The kids absolutely love it and look forward to it each year. The first half of the day is spent talking and learning about how to run a business as they help prepare for the Lemonade Stand and Bake Sale which takes place at noon in the company’s parking lot. The kids handled every part of the sale from raffles to collecting money to counting up donations after. Through the hard work of our employees and their families, generous clients, neighbors and colleagues, we were able to raise over $3,100 this year. Nave Newell matched whatever was donated.

In the afternoon, the kids get a chance to learn a little bit about what Nave Newell and their parents do every day. This year, a stormwater infiltration experiment was led by stormwater expert, Paige Maz, whose daughter has attended for the last 5 years.

Other activities included:

  • Learning about the Nave Newell Way and creating their own fundamentals and Way Card.
  • Marshmallow engineering with mini marshmallows and toothpicks to understand the importance of planning ahead and how everything connects.
  • Building and testing hoop gliders to see how different variables such as the size of the straw or hoops can affect a project’s success.

The day wrapped up talking about how to improve and do things better next year and the kids left with a book to take to school and share they’re experience.

We are so thankful to everyone who helped make this day a success!
