Expert Spotlight: Connor Shivetts

Years at Nave Newell: 5 years

Current Role: Recently promoted to Site Design Engineer

Previous Roles at Nave Newell: Started as a Staff Engineer

Education: Pennsylvania State University – Bachelors of Science, Civil Engineering

Expertise: City of Philadelphia Permitting Expert

I especially enjoy working on projects that involve stormwater management in the City of Philadelphia because the Water Department design manual is very clear and all-encompassing. There is rarely ambiguity as to what the design criteria are and how you can demonstrate compliance.

Favorite Nave Newell Way Fundamental: Fundamental #3 – Do the Right Thing, Always.

This is my favorite fundamental for a few reasons. The main thing it does for me is hold me accountable. The “always” part after the comma is especially important. Often it is easy to do the right thing when you receive praise or when it is convenient; but it takes a special amount of discipline to continue this commitment when nobody is watching.

Family and Fun Facts

Favorite Way to Relax on a Weekend: Camping, hiking, or going to the beach. Of course, while spending time with family and friends.

Childhood Dream Job: Rock Star – While I did learn to play guitar, my garage band never hit the big time.

Hidden Talents: Walking on my hands

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given: Don’t take yourself too seriously
