To meet Federal and State requirements under the Clean Water Act, the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) is updating its stormwater regulations for private development projects, effective July 1, 2015.
Are you ready? Here’s what you need to know.
The changes will:
- Increase the amount of stormwater managed on each development site.
- Slow down the rate at which stormwater leaves a development site and enters the combined sewer system.
- Clean the dirtiest stormwater on a site.
- Provide options for more efficient use of space in managing stormwater.
PWD recently engaged local design professionals including our City of Philadelphia expert, Alex Tweedie, to participate in focus groups to provide discussion and feedback on the regulations, new manual and upgraded Plan Review Website. This gave us an in depth look at what to expect.
