Woodbine wins Best in PA Living Award

The Best Landscaping / Use of Outdoor Space Award Goes to…

Nave Newell is proud to announce that our Woodbine Apartment project in Downingtown, Chester County (now known as The Point at Downingtown) was awarded Best Landscaping or Use of Outdoor Space at the 2022 Best in Pennsylvania Living Awards.

The Best in Pennsylvania Living Awards is a juried, best-in-class competition for home building, design, and associate services. The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Chester & Delaware Counties co-hosts the event with the HBA of Bucks & Montgomery Counties. This marks HBA’s 32nd year recognizing the achievements of their members. Winners represent the industry’s top talent and star projects in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware Counties.

About the Project

Located in Downingtown Borough, Chester County, this 17-acre site features 218 luxury apartments in three buildings. The project includes garages and surface parking lots, an outdoor courtyard with patios, seating areas, and a pool. There is also a walking trail, boardwalk, and a 6-acre park along Route 30/Lancaster Avenue that welcomes both residents and neighbors, connecting Woodbine with the surrounding area.

Outdoor Space and Amenity Design

To gain this achievement of Best Landscaping or Use of Outdoor Space, our planners and landscape architects designed a site full of amenities to offer a resort-style living. These amenities include:

  • Pool with sun ledges and an expansive pool deck
  • Bark park
  • Landscaped central green
  • Courtyard lounges and fire pits
  • Outdoor grilling stations and dining areas

Landscape Design and Planting Selection

The plantings selected by our landscape architects incorporate a wide variety of species focused around natives. Aesthetic and urban tolerant plantings were planted around the apartment buildings, parking lots, and amenity areas. Masses of select perennials were used on steep slopes for erosion control. Wet meadow grasses were placed in and around the floodplain that bisects the site and the trees planted in the park area were chosen to embrace and reflect the site’s history as well as the local area.

The result, a high-end living community packed with amenities, open space, and a new park to bring together residents and the neighborhood.

Construction was completed in 2021.

Red Carpet Interview with HGTV’s Jeff Devlin

Adding to the excitement, HBA had HGTV’s Jeff Devlin interview winners. Hear from Greg Newell, PE and Paul Lepard, RLA, PP about why they think Woodbine won this award, what they love about the Best in PA Living Awards, and why hiring an HBA member is so important.

Project Team

From the start, this was a collaborative design process. The team held multiple charrettes to capture the vision and ideas for the community and come up with design and programming to attract tenants while also complimenting the historic appeal of the Borough. Every stakeholder had input in the project aesthetic.
